COVID-19 and the Voyageurs National Park Association Community

Dear Friends of Voyageurs,

We are all entering uncertain territory together. This is normally the time of year we are ramping up our outreach events – everything from Pints for the Park nights and member gatherings, to summer trip planning talks and outdoor expos. We even have a new outreach and education coordinator on our team to increase community programs. We had big plans to host environmental education opportunities for kids at the park all spring.

However, we are officially canceling all our in-person events and programs through the end of April, due to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations. Thank you for your understanding on this.

We miss gathering with wonderful volunteers, partners, and supporters like you. We hope our park family is staying home, as able, and finding daily inspiration in nature and time with loved ones.

Though our team members have transitioned home, we are hard at work protecting the wild character of Voyageurs and finding creative ways to virtually connect you to the park. Here are some important updates:

  • Information about closures at Voyageurs National Park can be found here. Park facilities, including Park Headquarters and the Rainy Lake Visitor Center are closed. VNPA’s in-person events and programs are cancelled through the end of April. Voyageurs National Park is suspending all winter trail maintenance on all snowmobile and ski trails. The Kabetogama Ice Road is now closed.

  • There are no current changes or impacts to summer campsite and houseboat site reservations.

  • We are working in close partnership with the Park Service to develop a virtual program and online resources for kids and families stuck at home. More soon!

  • If you are ordering essential items on Amazon, you can designate Voyageurs National Park Association as your official AmazonSmile charity and, at no cost to you, a portion of your purchases will go to support VNPA’s work. Visit this link to select VNPA.

  • Please remember to take a break from the news cycle to clear your mind and embrace nature near your home. Be sure to practice social distancing and take extra precautions as outlined by the National Park Service here.

  • Our VNPA team will be working from home and is available by email to hear your questions, concerns, or ideas.

How you can help.

Now, more than ever, it is so important to share the joy of emerging spring and the promise of summer! We wish to spread hope and tranquility during this troubling time. Please help us by sharing favorite family photos and memories from the park using the hashtag #VoyageursLove and emailing vnpa@voyageurs.org.

Thank you! You make our work possible. Gifts large and small help sustain Voyageurs National Park’s lands and waters and programs that connect the next generation of conservationists to the outdoors. Our work continues today - we are actively working on several land protection projects, trail planning, and pivoting to create virtual opportunities for kids and families.

We are grateful to those of you who are renewing your memberships and who are remembering us in your giving.

As always, we are here to serve you and Voyageurs National Park during and after this crisis.

Wishing you and your loved ones health and safety,

Your Voyageurs National Park Association Team
