A local citizen from Kabetogama, Minnesota and his family are donating nine acres of lakeshore property on Kabetogama Lake for Voyageurs National Park. The property is located in Echo Bay on the west end of Kabetogama. The families of Gary Whipple and Herb Lindberg are donating the property in memory of Dewey and Millie Whipple and Janet Whipple Lindberg, who were longtime residents of Kabetogama.
“My father started to visit Kabetogama in 1945 for hunting and fishing. He enjoyed the area so much that they purchased a resort in 1955. They enjoyed the wilderness atmosphere of the area and hoped the area would always stay the same. Their wish was to see this parcel never to be developed,” Gary Whipple said.
Voyageurs National Park Association (VNPA) will help facilitate the transfer and hold the property until it can be included in the park. We would like to thank the families of Gary Whipple and Herb Lindberg for this generous donation and Fredrikson & Byron, P.A. for their pro bono services to help transfer the land.
Chuck Remus, acting superintendent of Voyageurs National Park added, “We want to thank the Whipple family for their generous donation of this fabulous piece of Kabetogama lakeshore. There is very little park-owned property on this part of Kabetogama. This property will not only preserve a great piece of lakeshore, but also be a great addition to the park. We would also like to thank our partner VNPA for their assistance in acquiring this property. Once again, without their help we would not have been able to add this property to our national park."
