Fall Hike & Picnic with a Ranger: Vermilion Falls

Take in beauty and power of Vermillion River as it roars and swirls and cascades through a 10- foot granite opening.  Then continue along the river  to possibly view a wild rice bed and learn more about native Minnesota plants, traditional Ojibwe uses for plants, and the impact of exotic species on the ecosystem. Participants may complete the Ethnobotanical Garden Jr. Ranger booklet during this hike. After the hike bring your own lunch and join Ranger Jackie for an informal opportunity to ask questions and learn more about Voyageurs National Park.

WHEN: Sunday, September 22, 2024, 11 am - 1 pm
WHERE: Vermilion Falls Trailhead & Picnic Area (map)
BE PREPARED:

  • Expect an easy partially accessible trail to the Vermillion falls overlook with more rugged non-accessible terrain to look for wild rice.

  • There is an accessible well and restrooms at the picnic site.

  • Bring your own lunch

  • Remember your bug deterrents (long sleeves, pants, bug net, bug spray)

  • Pack your sunscreen

  • Leave your pets at home or another safe place as this is a human only guided hike
