Resources for Teachers

Yellow Bus Fund

Voyageurs National Park Association is committed to giving the next generation of park stewards the opportunity to learn about nature, wildlife, conservation, and our public lands. With funds from the Donald Weesner Charitable Trust, we excited to offer travel grants through the Yellow Bus Fund for schools who may not otherwise be able to transport students to Voyageurs National Park.

If you are a teacher seeking aid related to transportation costs, please fill out this application and return it to us via email or fax (612-339-4731). We are excited to offer you this opportunity. Please contact us with any questions you may have at 612-333-5424 or

Minnesota’s National Park Legacy

Voyageurs National Park Association has produced over 3,000 copies of the Minnesota’s National Park Legacy film to distribute to libraries and schools throughout Minnesota. We hope that this educational resource will help to inform young people and community members about the natural beauty that lies just outside their back door.

National Parks intertwine history and environment with a hands-on learning approach that gives students an educational experience they will never forget. On-site field trips offer curriculum-based instruction with trained Park rangers and naturalists. Students engage in the diverse educational themes unique to each Park in pristine or urban environments with historic context.

Aside from site visits, there are many resource available for educators to build National Park lesson plans. The websites on page 5 of the DVD Companion Resource Guide for Educators have downloadable activities, but one of the most helpful resources is Park interpretive staff. Contact individuals at each Park site to learn more about the free tools available for educational use.
