AmeriCorps VISTA – Youth & Outreach Program Coordinator

acvista_0Voyageurs National Park Association is hiring a one-year AmeriCorps VISTA to support youth program development, capacity building, fundraising, and community engagement efforts.

Primary Duties

The selected candidate will attend VISTA Pre-Service Orientation (PSO) and begin their one-year service term with Voyageurs National Park Association August 21, 2017. This is a full-time, one-year position. The VISTA will office in Minneapolis with some travel to Voyageurs National Park. This position includes professional development and leadership training.

This VISTA position does permit working at another job during off hours.

The selected AmeriCorps VISTA candidate will:

  • Develop programs and partnerships that connect more youth to Voyageurs National Park in the park and in the classroom, and ensure their future success through securing funding.
  • Manage the National Park Teen Ambassador program.
  • Write grants and research new funding sources.
  • Assist with community outreach, events, fundraising, and communications efforts.
  • Develop strategies and systems to support youth, member, and volunteer outreach.
  • Support efforts to engage new communities in support of Voyageurs National Park.

Compensation & Benefits
This is a national service position funded through the Department of Interior and the AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America program. You will receive a modest living allowance and your choice of either an education award or a stipend upon completion of service. We are looking for a high energy, results-driven individual with a passion for protecting and promoting America’s National Parks.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Ability to multi-task, self-prioritize and move multiple projects forward at once
  • Strong research and writing skills with keen attention to detail so all materials and communications are accurate and professional
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to positively and professionally work with volunteers and donors; and represent the organization in the community
  • Strong initiative and work ethic, ability to efficiently manage time and workload
  • Comfortable with technology including Microsoft/Apple software, Dropbox, Google docs, Adobe Suite, Social Media
  • Willing to be a flexible member of a small but effective and passionate team
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Flexibility around occasional night and weekend work commitments
